Philosophy of the Establishment

I am pleased to announce the establishment of Yamato Buikukai International.

Fifty years have elapsed since then. I entered the world of Aikido when I was 18 and Hirokazu Kobayashi Sensei allowed me to join his "Buiku Center Budojo" in Tennoji, Osaka.

The Buiku-kai was just a small yudansha group of the "Aikido Osaka Office" which was then officially registered in Honbudojo. This yudansha group has grown so large that the "Aikido Osaka Office" was renamed "Aikido Osaka Buikukai."

At the age of 20, Kobayashi Sensei sent me to Nara City (about 40 minutes West of Osaka) to open a dojo. So, I went and established the Aikido Association of Nara Prefectural. Today, this dojo is called Aikido Yamato Buikukai and it is there that we learn and practice the true way of Aikido.

When I arrived in Nara to establish a dojo, people hardly knew what Aikido was. It was not a popular budo, so I then devoted my time to spread the name Aikido in Nara. I started in a small open garage with a few tatami mattresses, and we literally accepted anyone to practice with us. I personally trained and shared our purpose and philosophy with all those that came to our dojo.

I believe it is my mission to teach not only the physical techniques but also the living skills. I call those skills: Ki-kubari, Me-kubari, and Kokoro-kubari. I won´t go into the details of the meaning since I prefer to do so in person.

I also believe that all those who practice these essential living skills can better handle any type of conflict. Furthermore, he or she will learn to be more empathetic to others and thus better equipped to care about others’ feelings, eventually leading to a more peaceful and harmonious world.

Yamato Buikukai has expanded its activities throughout Japan and other countries. I trust my fellow associates will inherit and practice the true purpose of Aikido.
